PRINCIPLES & VALUES
Elected officials encounter countless new issues and challenges in office, often multiple times a day. More than just what candidates think about this or that issue, voters need to know why candidates believe what they do, and how they will move those issues forward once elected.
Who I am has always been the bedrock for what I believe, and why I believe it.
I’m a husband and father, and my love for my family drives everything I do.
I’m a Michigan and an American patriot because I am damn proud of my state and my country.
I am a Democrat because the modern Democratic Party has led the way on our nation’s most significant achievements.
I am a progressive because I believe in the advancement and betterment of all Americans.
I am woke because I take pains to be alert to the struggles and injustices facing people of all kinds.
I’m liberal because I believe in all Americans’ personal freedoms.
I’m a capitalist that knows “free market” doesn’t mean we keep government out of the economy just to hand control over to the corporations and the rich.
The above list is not exhaustive. It can’t be. Those are but a few of the pillars of my worldview and if I am given the opportunity to represent our State of Michigan in the Senate, those and others are the beliefs and values that will guide me in the issues I assess and the decisions that I make.
VOLUNTEER
To me, campaigns sending volunteers out just to knock on doors and pass out pamphlets with the candidate’s face has always been an exercise in self-aggrandizing ego-stroking.
Instead of coordinating efforts to tell communities that I want to serve them, volunteering with my campaign will be heavily focused on doing the actual serving. We will be going into various communities in Michigan to help in any way we can and that each of those communities needs. Community service, not self service.
